HOSPITALIST FELLOWSHIP

Training Physicians to Lead Inpatient Medicine with Confidence, Skill, and Purpose

For physicians called to high-acuity inpatient care, procedural excellence, and the responsibility of leading teams through some of medicine’s most critical moments.

The Hospitalist Fellowship is an advanced year of inpatient-focused training designed to bridge the gap between residency and independent practice. Fellows develop deeper clinical judgment, procedural competency, teaching experience, and leadership skills while caring for medically complex patients in both community-based and high-volume hospital settings.

This fellowship is designed for physicians who want more than an attending job.

It is for those who want to become steady, capable leaders in hospital medicine… equipped to manage acuity, teach others, improve systems, and care well under pressure.

GO DEEPER

THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS

You’re not just expanding your training. You’re deepening your calling.

One of the defining strengths of this fellowship is its dual-track clinical exposure.

Fellows train within both Cahaba Medical Care’s mission-focused, community-integrated hospital environment and a high-volume private hospitalist group experience. This unique balance exposes fellows to two distinct approaches to inpatient medicine… one deeply rooted in underserved care and continuity, the other shaped by efficiency, systems-based practice, and high-acuity hospital flow.

The result is a physician prepared for a wide range of inpatient settings and practice models.

Mission in Action

At Cahaba, we believe healing is more than physical care alone.

Our inpatient teams intentionally create space for compassion, encouragement, and spiritual support… including daily devotionals during rounds for those who desire it. Fellows experience firsthand what it looks like to practice clinically excellent medicine while remaining deeply human in the process.

A TIGHT-KNIT TRAINING ENVIRONMENT

This fellowship is intentionally relational.

Fellows train within a cohesive and highly collaborative inpatient culture where attendings, residents, and staff know one another well and work closely together. Here, you are not simply another provider moving through the system… you are part of a team invested in your growth, leadership, and long-term success.

WORK-LIFE & COMPENSATION

Internal Moonlighting Opportunities
Fellows have opportunities for internal moonlighting within the same hospital systems where they already train and build relationships… allowing for additional income, continuity, and clinical confidence.

Meaningful Community Impact
Train in communities where skilled inpatient physicians make a tangible difference every day. Fellows care for underserved patient populations while developing skills that translate across both academic and community hospital settings.

Hospital medicine requires more than medical knowledge alone. It requires leadership, adaptability, procedural confidence, and the ability to remain steady when patients and teams need you most.
